Here at London Hijama Clinic we offer acupuncture for pain relief. And we noted new NICE guidelines on pain relief, published 3 August 2020.

“Acupuncture is recommended as an option for some people with chronic primary pain, provided it is delivered within certain, clearly defined parameters.”

NICE is the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. It provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care.

NICE said that, “A number of commonly used drug treatments for chronic primary pain have little or no evidence that they work and shouldn’t be prescribed.”

Those “...with a type of chronic pain called chronic primary pain should be offered supervised group exercise programmes, some types of psychological therapy, or acupuncture.”

“Chronic primary pain represents chronic pain as a condition in itself and which can’t be accounted for by another diagnosis, or where it is not the symptom of an underlying condition (this is known as chronic secondary pain). It is characterised by significant emotional distress and functional disability.  Examples include chronic widespread pain and chronic musculoskeletal pain, as well as conditions such as chronic pelvic pain.”
